Temporary half day closures will take place on September 5th and 6th for the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway through Zion National Park, which connects State Route 9 between Springdale and Mt. Carmel Junction. The closures will take place between the hours of 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. to help with emergency repairs to the asphalt roadway as well as to the historic road guard walls which were damaged in July after a monsoon storm hit the park.

The storm hit the park with three inches of rain in the span of three hours. The road repairs that will be taking place on September 5th and 6th, are necessary to help prevent any future damage from occurring to these structures.
Alternative Routes
During the closure, alternate routes will be available going east and west via Highway 59 from Hurricane, Utah from Fredonia, Arizona and Highway 14 from Cedar City, Utah to Long Valley Junction and Highway 89. Those coming to the park can access the park by traveling East on State Route 9 from I-15. The Zion Visitor Center, museum, shuttle busses, campgrounds and all other park facilities will remain open and operate as normal during the road closures.
